Once upon a time, I used to take 6 spoons of sugar in my coffee, 4 in my tea. Yes, you read that right.
10. Spoons. Of. Sugar. Just from hot drinks. Clearly I had a love/love relationship with anything sweet. Fizzy Drinks too (Thank you pregnancy/ post baby hormones). Trust me, I had to go cold turkey on that fast, as it spiraled out of control in the end!
Coincidentally, it was around the same time I felt the need to start using some sort of light foundation to hide my skin that looked bleurgh. But hiding wasn’t fixing my skin. And it definitely wasn’t healing it either.
So what was the correlation? Refined, processed sugar is highly inflammatory. The insulin levels that rise from eating sugar, can increase inflammation in your skin, which is one of the main reasons behind acne, blemishes and redness. Too much can also aggravate other skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.
Alot of the time when my customers have come to me for their problem skin, one of the things I advise them is to check their diets. To achieve healthy skin, the work needs to be done inside and out. Our skincare and makeup are designed to work holistically, to help heal your skin from the outside, while a good diet will help heal it from the inside.
What’s your relationship with sugar like?
